Description

One of the few colours made using organic pigments, genuine bone black (burnt animal bones) provides the deepest black possible. We found a version of this paint on the window frames of St Paul's Chapter House, where it was used to black out the windows during German air strikes in WW2.

Blackout looks stunning on the photos of the roof trim along with Whiteley.

Don't forget to order your Raw Linseed Oil and Balsam Turpentine if you need to thin the first coat.

Coverage is approximately 15-20m2 per litre per coat (160-220 sq.ft. per 33.8 fl.oz. per coat).  This equates to about £6.53 per square metre (US $0.79 * per sq.ft.) for the finished job done in three coats (one coat diluted and two further coats undiluted).

The finished job for Farrow and Ball Exterior Eggshell (plus primer) is approximately £8.92 per m2 and Dulux Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Satin (plus primer and undercoat) £11.13 per m2.

First time use of Brouns & Co external linseed oil paint.

Published by Chris Gare on 29th Apr 2021

I've used a competitive linseed oil paint for many years and I've never come across Broun before. As the 'other' company were out of stock, I thought I'd give it a try. I have to say that I'm very pleased with the product. The colour is a deeper black than the other Swedish product and the consistency is less runny reducing drips. It does seem more expensive for a 2.5L tin rather than a 3L tin for a similar price though. I'm a convert.

    Blackout exterior paint

Looks great on trellis and external wooden doors. Used it thinned down with raw linseed oil and so great coverage. The only downside is to be careful of the flammability of used rags/ paintbrushes whilst drying.

This paint is expensive but it goes a long way and the finish is better than any other paint I have used.

Has worked very well in our listed building. It also smells beautiful if slightly diluted with Balsamic Turpentine! Alan

Fabulous product but different consistency from the last time we bought it from you. Much better this time. It didn't need so much thinning down with linseed so had a more Matt finish which we wanted
