Description

The ultimate in rapid, safe paint removal.

You'll never pick up a hot-air gun again. The original Swedish Speedheater system uses gentle infrared heat to remove paint, varnish and putty brilliantly at lower temperatures so you can say goodbye to scorched wood and cracked glass. It safely removes lead paint, too. After only a few seconds' exposure, the Speedheater Cobra lets you scrape old paint off easily, even in those pesky hard-to-reach areas.

Lightweight (at just over half a kilo), fast to set up and easy to angle, the Speedheater Cobra makes light work of removing paint from both wide-open expanses of paint and tricky nooks & crannies. It's perfect for removing old paint from furniture, door & window frames, marine details and stairways. We also supply replacement bulbs.

Safe, environmentally friendly paint removal

When stripping old paint which contains lead, lead particles are carried in the dust during sanding and scraping, and are released as fumes when using a hot-air gun. Even in relatively modern properties, paintwork may contain lead: although the use of lead in paint dropped dramatically in the early 1960s, it continued quite legally with some paints until the early 1980s. In 1992, EU regulations banned lead in all paints except those for use in historic buildings.

The good news is that the Speedheater Cobra safely removes lead-based paint because it works at temperatures lower than those which activate lead. Genuinely independent tests conducted by an industrial research institute in Sweden found that, even under 'worst case' conditions, the Speedheater only released between 1 and 10% of the lead limits which are permissible in Sweden and the USA. Get the independent test report.

Gently removes paint from wood

The Speedheater Cobra's infrared wavelength activates the water molecules in the old paint and softens it, causing it to bubble. The bubbling is due to the expansion of gases: some might even ignite, producing tiny flames which quickly burn out. This is quite normal and, with proper use, the Speedheater won't scorch wood.

Gentle on glass, too

Working close to a glass pane with a hot-air gun can be a tense affair, because cracking can happen no matter how careful you try to be. Used correctly, the Speedheater Cobra keeps your glass intact because the heat is generated by radiation, not convection.

Absolutly briliant piece of equipment. I use it in my grade 2* listed building when stripping any wood. Also my professional painter used my other large speedheater stripper and he loved it so much he "bought " it of me. As a result of people watching him strip the wooden beams etc from my house outside, he was give a 6 other jobs in the street to do!

As a professional decorator, the time spent on preparation of surfaces can be a major factor. Having a tool that reduces time, is efficient, clean and removes paint effectively is a sound investment. The Speedheater Cobra does exactly this. The fact it is safer as it does not reach the temperatures to vaporise the lead content in paint, better for working against glass than direct heat and removes paint from metal are all beneficial. I have not used the LPG gas blowlamp or hot air stripper for over a year now, the speedheater has taken their place.

Quiet, easy and effective. I've only used it on the staircase (gloss and eggshell) which was very easy. I've not tried it on the windows yet but I'm hoping that it lives up to its claims of being kind to glass.

Renovating a Victorian house means we’re up against lead paint all the time. Thanks to the Cobra we’re finally able to safely and quickly remove a wall of lead paint ourselves, after 20 years of not knowing how to handle it.

We had lots of windows and doors to strip of old Farrow & Ball paint which had all failed after only about 2 years. We saw the Cobra at the Listed Property Show and decided to bite the bullet and get one. My husband can now strip a whole window in about an hour. Initially we didn't get the scrapers as we thought our standard scraper would do. Went back for the boomerang and profile scraper which makes windows far easier to strip. Removing paint actually becomes fun! If your in doubt about getting one: get one!

After decades of using heavy, noisy, vibrating air-guns, it was a real pleasure to use the Cobra. Stripped our varnish quickly and easily – so glad we got it! Can't agree with a previous reviewer who argued for chemical strippers - we've tried them and they're slow, messy, nasty, and arduous. And we *are* DIY enthusiasts.
