This saddlebag style house in the Town of Wake Forest North Carolina was commonly in use as slave housing. This house, however, is a much grander version. It was probably built around 1875, or possibly a little earlier. It is a rare example of post American Civil War housing for the African American working class.

Jill’s gate was a long but satisfying project for David Keys of Londonderry. The wood for this gate was originally in the ceiling of the Old Bleach Linen Company factory in Randalstown, Northern Ireland.

This property was purchased by the current owners in 2013. It had endured a brutal facelift in the 70’s with a porch being added and subsequently the windows being replaced with plastic double glazing.

It’s that time of year when we can start to enjoy the garden and many garden structures and furniture can often benefit from linseed paint. The wicking properties help protect the wood and because the paint is absorbed into the surface it helps the longevity of the paint.
